Matthew J. Siegel
Matthew’s practice focuses on oil and gas transactions and the examination and analysis of complex land and leasehold titles. He has considerable experience rendering title opinions (drill site, division order, leasehold, and supplemental). He also drafts curative title instruments, including assignments, ratifications, and stipulations of interest. Matthew’s transactional work includes assisting clients in drafting and negotiating contractual provisions and agreements, such as mineral leases, surface use agreements, and joint operating agreements. He also assists clients with oil and gas acquisitions, including due diligence.
Matthew is a member of the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Section of the State Bar of Texas and a member of the Houston Bar Association. He has co-authored the following articles: Whose Right is it Anyway? Surface Use Issues in Oil & Gas Development and Two States Separated by a Common Law: A Comparison of Select Topics in Texas and Louisiana Oil & Gas Law.
Matthew earned his J.D. Degree with Honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 2003, having also studied abroad at University College London. During law school, he was a member of the Legal Research Board and was on the staff of the Texas Environmental Law Journal. Matthew received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan with Distinction in 2000.
